First Generation

1. John Preston ROARK. Born Sep 15, 1815. Died 1845.

Self emmigrated with party of Chickasaws in 1844. He is listed on a muster roll listed with 2 females & a child under age10 presumably, 1st wife Sarah Love, son James L. Roark & 2nd wife Emily Love. It is also presumed that Emily was with child at the time of arrival to the Indian Territories. Benjamin F. Roark was born shortly thereafter. It was common for Chickasaw to practice polygomy. Polygamy was not made unlawful until the constitution of 1855/56.[3]

He married Emily LOVE, daughter of Isaac LOVE & Eliza McKINNEY. Born Feb 19, 1827. Died Mar 2, 1884 in or FEB 1892 (see notes). Buried in Burneyville, OK.

7.Emily, his sister, would be 12 in 1878.
8.Mrs. E. Burney on 1878 Annuity was Emily Burney, wife of David - children were Emily and Edward.

Medical: Died very suddenly one day while visiting wife's parents. He had been in fine health before.[1]

He married Frances Elizabeth KEMP, daughter of Joel I. KEMP & Mariah COLBERT, Jul 22, 1865[3]. Born Mar 18, 1849 in Oklahoma. Died Nov 5, 1939. Buried in Calera, Bryan County, Oklahoma.

3. Alphonso Bailey ROARK. Born Dec 15, 1866 in Panola County, Oklahoma. Died Nov 14, 1930 in Durant. Occupation Barber, County Clerk of Panola County/Chickasaw Nation.

Dora Beth Dixon told this story: At Papa and Gramma Roark's they would have square dances at their home. Papa [grandpa] would play fiddle and call the dance, Gramma or Ruth played piano, Uncle Alvin could play anything you put in his hands.
